Job Summary:  Barista

The Barista plays a key role in our energetic team of food and beverage enthusiasts who are driven to provide excellent customer service. You’ll have the opportunity to be part of a fun atmosphere where both customers and employees have a great experience that’s welcoming and engaging.  Baristas spend their days whipping up various espresso-based drinks per customers’ request.  The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, is passionate about the food and beverage industry and enjoys working with people.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Acts with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Liquid Church.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain high standards of professionalism
  • Works as a part of a fun, high-energy team
  • Helps with other areas of the café when needed
  • Warmly and graciously greets all guests upon arrival and offers assistance with products and services
  • Promote all Liquid Church marketing and advertising products,”Swag”
  • Create and stock sales displays
  • Ensured cleanliness of café
  • Exercise personable communication with each customer while directing them where they can be best served inside the cafe
  • Smile and greet customers
  • Ensured cleanliness of cafe, completing basic cleaning duties of the cafe including but not limited to cleaning the counters, the tables, washing dishes, taking care of trash, and mopping the floors.
  • Create and maintain eye contact
  • Communicate enthusiastically

Fundamental Skills Needed:

  • Active Listening skills: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Mechanical skills: Baristas must be well-schooled in the use of grinders, espresso machines, and other tools necessary to make coffee and espresso drinks
  • Communication skills: Talking to customers and other employees and listening closely to ensure that you’re getting customers’ orders correct are crucial to being a barista
  • Team player: Baristas have an important role in a coffee shop or restaurant and the ability to work closely with other servers, food preparers, and managers is a necessary quality.
  • Customer Service Skills: Putting customer satisfaction first is a big part of being a barista; these professionals strive to make every customer’s experience enjoyable. They also need to be outgoing and be able to satisfy the clients’ needs in a professional manner.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Issues such as incorrect orders, technical problems or displeased customers are part of this job. Baristas need to solve problems and work well under pressure.
  • Multi-Tasking Skills: Often baristas have to deal with multiple tasks at the same time, they need to be able to rise to the challenge. Taking orders, preparing hot beverages, decorating drinks and serving them are all part of the barista job description.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Age: 21+
  • 1-2 years; Barista/Customer service experience in a fast paced food and beverage/retail environment preferred.
  • High School and/or GED preferred
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • At times, employers do strongly consider the level of experience and skills. However, the majority of the time the training will be provided by the CWC management team which usually covers areas such as the basics of coffee-making, correct use of equipment and customer service, sometimes unruly or demanding customers.
